The Amarillo Tri-State Exposition's volunteer Board of Directors created a scholarship program for the youth of the Texas Panhandle in the spring of 2004. The fund is being administered by the Opportunity Plan, Inc, a scholarship administration group located in Canyon, Texas.
The main criteria for the scholarships are the financial need of the student, academic achievement, community service and leadership performance. The scholarship recipient must have graduated from a high school in the Panhandle’s 26-county region and be enrolled in a community college or university. The Board of Directors have encouraged ways to increase the fund, including special scholarship fundraising activities and a matching grant program.
